We will be happy to work with you to develop the ideal computer glasses to counteract these problems.
How to find the perfect visual aid for working at a PC
In today’s working world, many of us spend a large part of the day in front of a computer. Whether in the office or working from home, hours of screen work can put significant strain on the eyes and lead to vision problems. Common complaints such as headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes and neck tension are not uncommon. To counteract these issues, it is important to find the right glasses for computer work. As opticians, we would like to show you in this article what to look for when choosing the optimal computer glasses.
1. What are computer glasses?
Computer glasses, often also referred to as computer eyewear, are specifically designed to relieve your eyes when working on digital devices. Unlike conventional glasses or reading glasses, they take into account the particular requirements of PC work. Computer glasses are designed to provide the optimal visual range for the distance between your eyes and the monitor—usually between 50 and 80 cm.
2. Why are special glasses for the screen important?
Staring at a screen for hours places heavy demands on our eyes. In particular, so-called “blue light” emitted by digital screens can disrupt the natural day-night rhythm and lead to digital eye strain. In addition, many of us tend to lean forward to see the text better, which can result in an unnatural head and body posture.
Computer glasses not only correct your prescription, but also help protect your eyes from harmful blue light and promote proper posture at the workplace.
3. What should you look for when choosing?
Choosing the right computer glasses depends on several factors:
a) Individual prescription and working distance
Depending on whether you are nearsighted, farsighted or presbyopic, your glasses must be individually adjusted. It is important to determine the optimal visual range for the distance to the screen. While reading glasses are often designed for close-up vision, computer glasses offer a special intermediate solution that takes the distance to the monitor into account.
b) Anti-reflective lenses
Light reflections on the screen or from artificial office lighting can put additional strain on your eyes. Anti-reflective lenses minimize these reflections and provide a more comfortable viewing experience.
c) Blue-light filter
A blue-light filter can help reduce harmful radiation from the monitor. Especially for people who work at a PC for long periods, lenses with a blue-light filter are advisable. They reduce eye strain and can help support a healthy sleep rhythm.
d) Progressive lenses
For people who need sharp vision both near and far—for example, when frequently switching between the screen, keyboard and meeting notes—progressive lenses offer a solution. Modern workplace progressive lenses have a particularly wide visual range for intermediate distances, making them the ideal choice for PC workstations.
4. Correct posture and ergonomics
The right glasses alone are often not enough to prevent eye and body discomfort. Make sure your screen is at eye level and at a sufficient distance (approx. 50–80 cm) from your eyes. In addition, you should take regular breaks during which you let your gaze wander into the distance to relax your eyes. The 20-20-20 rule can help: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet (about 6 meters) away for 20 seconds.
