Hot days: stress for your eyes

Hot days: stress for your eyes

Hot days: stress for your eyes

Prolonged periods of heat exposure reduce tear production while increasing the evaporation of tear fluid.

The result:

– a burning or gritty sensation in the eye
– increased sensitivity to light
– blurred vision
– watery eyes

Read on to find out how to protect your eyes effectively in summer.

Your eyes deserve the best care.

Common strains on the eyes include:

1. intense sunlight and UV radiation

– Always wear high-quality sunglasses with sufficient UV protection (ideally up to UV 400). Tips on choosing sunglasses can be found here…

2. Staying in air-conditioned rooms

– If you work at a PC and your office is air-conditioned, try to blink more often. Take regular “eye breaks”. Close your eyes for a few seconds and focus on distant objects to relax the eye muscles and stimulate tear production.

3. Swimming pool

– Chlorinated water in swimming pools promotes dryness. Use swimming goggles to protect your eyes from chlorine and other chemicals in swimming pools.

Further general advice

Drink enough water throughout the day, as feeling thirsty is already a sign that dehydration is beginning.

– Pay attention to a balanced, vitamin-rich diet to reduce inflammation and strengthen the eyes from within. You can find foods that contain antioxidants and important vitamins, e.g. dark leafy greens, berries, etc., here…

– Spend as much time as possible in cool rooms.

Current Sports Glasses Offers

Take advantage of our attractive offers and secure your new favorite sports glasses at the best prices.

1. Fit and Comfort

A good fit is essential for sports glasses.
Pay attention to:
  • wide field of vision
  • wind protection and good ventilation
  • helmet compatibility
  • non-slip grip
  • buoyancy if applicable
  • Adjustable nose pads and temples ensure better hold.

2. Protection and Safety

  • Shatterproof lenses made of polycarbonate or Trivex provide protection during falls or impacts.
  • Side protection against wind, dust, and insects (especially when cycling or running).

3. UV Protection

  • The lenses should offer 100% UV-A, UV-B, and ideally UV-C protection – this is essential for outdoor sports.

4. Tint and Light Conditions

  • Different tints or interchangeable lenses for various weather conditions:

    Dark tint for strong sunlight
Orange/Yellow for diffuse light (e.g., fog)
Photochromic lenses automatically adapt to the light
  • Polarized lenses absorb light reflections from water and snow surfaces. This allows you to enjoy glare-free and comfortable vision that relieves eye strain. Additionally, polarization increases contrast.

5. Ventilation and Anti-Fog

  • Good ventilation systems prevent fogging.
  • Anti-fog coating is helpful for strenuous sports.

6. Weight

  • Lightweight and durable material is more comfortable to wear during longer activities (e.g., nylon, TR90).

7. Prescription (if needed)

  • Sports glasses are also available with prescription lenses or clip-in systems.
  • Alternative: Contact lenses + sports sunglasses.

8. Sport-Specific Requirements

  • Cycling: Aerodynamics, wide fields of vision, protection from headwind
  • Running: Very lightweight fit, non-slip hold
  • Winter sports: Good visibility in changing light conditions, snow protection
  • Water sports: Polarization against glare, buoyant or securely attachable
  • Golf: a light yellow or orange tint helps you better recognize the contours of the green grass and makes the golf ball stand out more.
We provide comprehensive advice and will find the perfectly fitting sports glasses for your favorite sport from our extensive range of brand products.

opti 2025 – the international trade show for optics and design in Munich – a highlight to start the year

Our visit to opti at the end of January was once again a highlight to start the year, which we shared with over 20,000 visitors and more than 350 exhibitors from 28 countries in packed exhibition halls.

In personal discussions with representatives of top international brands and independent optical start-ups, we were inspired by innovative eyewear designs and new formats.

In addition to current eyewear fashion, our focus was on forward-looking measurement and screening techniques for the early detection of eye diseases and the prevention of myopia in children. Expert lectures and training sessions on the versatile use of innovative contact lenses rounded off the specialist program.

Learn more about the current trends in international eyewear fashion and the key topics for 2025 now at Roman Wagner.
